ABOUT THIS SESSION
SESSION 58 of the trial of Adolf Eichmann took place in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 30, 1961. The session begins with the resumption of the submission of documents on Hungary into evidence by Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Bach. Hansi Brand then testifies in regard to her role on the Relief and Rescue Committee in Budapest during the war. The committee operated illegally to house and clothe Jewish refugees in Hungary from Nazi-occupied countries. Brand’s husband, Joel Brand, had begun testifiying in SESSIONS 56 and 57 on his direct negotiations with Eichmann in regard to an exchange of Jews for trucks. Mrs. Brand discusses her own personal encounters with Eichmann, identifying him in the courtroom. Brand’s testimony will continue in SESSION 59.
The vast majority of SESSION 58 has been lost. The roughly twenty minutes of surviving footage, all from Brand’s testimony, are presented here.
