SESSION XLIX
ABOUT THIS SESSION
SESSION 49 of the trial of Adolf Eichmann took place in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 23, 1961. The session focuses on Nazi actions in Slovakia during World War II. The session begins with the submission of documents on Slovakia into evidence by Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Bach. Among the submissions is a statement by Eichmann’s representative in Bratislava, Dieter Wisliceny. Following the submission of evidence, Dr. Ernst Abeles testifies in regard to the lives of Jews in Slovakia during the war. He recalls meetings with Wisliceny—including one attended by Eichmann—and a proposal to pay Wisliceny in exchange for stopping deportations.
The majority of SESSION 49 has been lost. The roughly thirty minutes of surviving footage—all from Abeles’s testimony—are presented here.
